If mmol/L is selected, the engine converts glucose to mg/dL by multiplying by 18.0182. It classifies the converted value at <54, <70, <100, <126, <200, or >=200 mg/dL, then estimates A1C with (glucose + 46.7) / 28.7 and rounds A1C to one decimal place.

Variables and inputs

The input is labeled Fasting Blood Glucose and can be entered in mg/dL or mmol/L. The UI accepts any positive number but does not collect fasting duration, meal timing, age, medication, or symptoms. The displayed average glucose is the converted mg/dL value rounded to a whole number.

Worked example

For 95 mg/dL, the engine returns Normal. Its A1C shortcut is (95 + 46.7) / 28.7 = 4.9%, and average glucose is displayed as 95 mg/dL. The equivalent input 5.27 mmol/L converts to about 95 mg/dL before the same classification.

How to interpret the result

The category describes the single number under the route's fasting thresholds. The A1C value is only an estimate generated from that one glucose input; it is not the same as a laboratory A1C test, which reflects longer-term average glucose.

Common mistakes to avoid

Choose the unit that matches the meter or lab report, and do not enter a post-meal or random reading as fasting glucose. Do not diagnose diabetes from this screen or compare an A1C shortcut with a measured A1C without checking the test context.

Assumptions and limitations

The engine treats one fasting value as if it were average glucose for its A1C shortcut and does not confirm abnormal results. It does not account for pregnancy, illness, medications, meter error, symptoms, or repeat testing. Very low or very high readings, especially with symptoms, need prompt clinical guidance.
