What this calculator does
For side length s, volume = s^3, surface area = 6*s^2, face diagonal = s*sqrt(2), and space diagonal = s*sqrt(3).

Variables and inputs
Side Length defaults to 5 and must be positive. The side, diagonals, area, and volume use linear, linear, square, and cubic units respectively.
Worked example
For s=5: volume = 5^3 = 125; surface area = 6*25 = 150; face diagonal = 5*sqrt(2) = 7.0711; space diagonal = 5*sqrt(3) = 8.6603.
How to interpret the result
The face diagonal crosses one square face; the space diagonal connects opposite vertices through the interior.
Common mistakes to avoid
Do not confuse the face diagonal with the space diagonal, and do not use 6*s^3 for surface area.
Assumptions and limitations
The model assumes all six faces are congruent squares and all edges are equal. It does not include material thickness or surface openings.
Practical use and checks
Use the Cube Calculator when all three dimensions of a solid are the same. Enter side length 5 as a check; volume should be 125 cubic units, surface area 150 square units, face diagonal about 7.0711, and space diagonal about 8.6603. The face diagonal crosses one square face, while the space diagonal connects opposite vertices through the solid. Doubling the side to 10 should make surface area four times larger and volume eight times larger, which is a useful scale check. The result can support packaging, material estimates, or a geometry lesson, but only when the object is genuinely cube-like. Use square units for surface area and cubic units for volume; a side measured in inches does not make the volume a linear inch value. The formulas assume sharp corners, equal edges, flat faces, and no openings or wall thickness. A hollow cube, a rounded block, or a box with different dimensions belongs in a different model. For a real package, use internal dimensions for capacity and external dimensions for shipping clearance, and do not add material waste unless the project requires it. Rounding the displayed diagonals may matter when a diagonal is used to select a rigid insert or screen.
