How to use the Blood Pressure Risk Calculator

What this calculator does
The route first assigns the same blood-pressure bands used by the basic classifier.
Formula and method
The route first assigns the same blood-pressure bands used by the basic classifier. It then adds points for pressure (1 for >=130/80, 2 for >=140/90, or 3 for >=160/100), age (1 at 55 or 2 at 65), male age >=45 (+1) or female age >=55 (+1), smoking (+2), and diabetes (+2). Scores 0-1 are Low, 2-3 Moderate, 4-5 High, and 6 or more Very High.
Variables and inputs
Enter systolic and diastolic pressure in mmHg, age in years, the male or female scoring option, and yes/no smoker and diabetes selections. The defaults are 130/85 mmHg, age 55, male, nonsmoker, and no diabetes. The gender option selects the engine's age rule; it is not a complete clinical risk profile.
Worked example
With the defaults, 130/85 contributes 1 point, age 55 contributes 1, and the male age >=45 rule contributes 1. The total is 3 points, so the engine returns Stage 1 Hypertension and Moderate risk, with a lifestyle-and-monitoring recommendation.
How to interpret the result
This output is an app-specific point screen that combines blood pressure with a few risk factors. It is useful for showing how the selected inputs affect the score, but its Low, Moderate, High, and Very High labels are not a validated absolute cardiovascular-risk percentage.
Common mistakes to avoid
Do not treat the score as a diagnosis or as a replacement for an ASCVD or clinician-led assessment. Enter the pressure in the correct order, answer smoking and diabetes for the person being assessed, and do not assume that a low score cancels a crisis-range pressure.
Assumptions and limitations
The engine omits cholesterol values, kidney disease, prior cardiovascular events, medications, family history, pregnancy, physical activity, and many other risk variables. Its thresholds and point weights are hardcoded, and it does not validate or average readings. A crisis category needs urgent attention regardless of the added score.
