How to use the Fat Intake Calculator

Last reviewed September 14, 2026

What this calculator does

The engine maps diet type to a fixed fat share: balanced 30%, lowFat 20%, highFat 35%, and keto 70%.

Formula and method

The engine maps diet type to a fixed fat share: balanced 30%, lowFat 20%, highFat 35%, and keto 70%. It calculates fat calories = total calories * share / 100 and fat grams = fat calories / 9. The displayed percentage is the selected share.

Variables and inputs

Enter weight in kilograms, a diet type, and total calories in kcal/day. Weight is shown in the form but is not read by the calculation; only diet type and total calories affect the result.

Worked example

For the defaults of 70 kg, Balanced, and 2,000 kcal/day: fat calories = 2,000 * 0.30 = 600 kcal; fat grams = 600 / 9 = 66.7 g, displayed as 66.7 g; the result reports 30% of calories from fat.

How to interpret the result

The result is a macro allocation under one of four preset percentages. It does not say which kinds of fat to eat, whether the total calorie target is appropriate, or whether the pattern fits a medical or athletic goal.

Common mistakes to avoid

Do not expect changing weight to change this route's output, and do not confuse grams of fat with the percentage of calories from fat. Remember that 9 kcal/g is an energy conversion, not a recommendation about saturated or unsaturated fat.

Assumptions and limitations

The diet labels are hardcoded shares and do not distinguish saturated, monounsaturated, polyunsaturated, or trans fat. The engine does not validate calories or weight, account for health conditions or medications, or balance protein and carbohydrate. Weight is an unused input in the current implementation.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Frequently asked questions

Why does changing weight not change the result?

Weight is displayed and stored by the UI, but the current engine calculates only from total calories and the selected diet percentage.

Does selecting keto make a diet medically ketogenic?

No. It simply assigns 70% of entered calories to fat. A therapeutic ketogenic diet has additional composition, monitoring, and clinical considerations.

Does the calculator separate healthy and less healthy fats?

No. All fat calories are combined. Use nutrition labels and current dietary guidance to evaluate fat types and food sources.
