Find the rectangular volume

Multiply length by width by depth after converting all three dimensions to the same unit. For a slab, depth is often given in inches while length and width are in feet, so convert depth first.

Convert to the order unit

Ready-mix is commonly ordered by cubic yard, while bagged products list approximate yield. Convert the calculated volume to the unit used by the supplier and follow the product instructions.

Allow for real conditions

Uneven subgrade, spillage, form movement, and measurement rounding can reduce the delivered amount. Add a modest allowance appropriate to the job, then confirm with a contractor or supplier.
