The engine normalizes volume to milliliters and divides by each configured factor: 1 L = 1,000 mL, 1 US gal = 3,785.41 mL, 1 qt = 946.353 mL, 1 pt = 473.176 mL, 1 cup = 236.588 mL, 1 US fl oz = 29.5735 mL, 1 tbsp = 14.7868 mL, and 1 tsp = 4.92892 mL.
Variables and inputs
Enter a numeric volume and choose mL, L, gal, qt, pt, cup, fl oz, tbsp, or tsp. The form uses one source-unit selector, returns all listed outputs on conversion, and formats values with up to eight significant digits. Customary units follow the factors in the engine.
Worked example
For 1 L, the engine computes 1,000 mL, 1,000 / 3,785.41 = about 0.264172 US gal, 1,000 / 236.588 = about 4.22675 cups, and 1,000 / 29.5735 = about 33.814 fl oz.
How to interpret the result
The result is an equivalent volume or capacity. A fluid ounce is a volume unit, not an ounce of mass, and a volume conversion cannot tell how much a substance weighs without density. The customary labels must be read with their regional convention.
Common mistakes to avoid
Do not use an Imperial gallon factor for the engine's gallon factor, and do not confuse fluid ounces with ounces by weight. Keep tablespoons and teaspoons in the same convention, and do not use a volume result as a mass result without a density.
Assumptions and limitations
The customary factors are rounded and the page does not identify every regional cup or gallon convention in the UI. It does not account for temperature expansion, meniscus or measuring error, container shape, density, or usable capacity. Display precision is limited to eight significant digits.
