The converter first changes both volume units to milliliters or both weight units to grams, then divides by the destination unit's factor. Volume factors include 4.92892 mL per teaspoon, 236.588 mL per cup, and 1,000 mL per liter; weight factors include 28.3495 g per ounce, 453.592 g per pound, and 1,000 g per kilogram. The result is rounded to four decimals.
Variables and inputs
Choose Volume or Weight, enter a nonnegative amount, and select From and To units from the matching list. Volume options include teaspoons through gallons, milliliters, and liters; weight options include ounces, pounds, grams, and kilograms. The UI does not expose an ingredient field.
Worked example
For 1 cup to milliliters, the engine uses 1 x 236.588 mL / 1 mL per mL = 236.5880 mL. For a weight conversion, 2 lb uses 2 x 453.592 g = 907.1840 g.
How to interpret the result
This is a unit conversion within one measurement dimension. A volume cup and a weight ounce are not interchangeable here; converting between them would require an ingredient density and a defined measurement convention.
Common mistakes to avoid
Choose Volume for fluid ounces and cups, and Weight for ounces and pounds. Do not use a weight ounce as if it were a fluid ounce, and do not mix a dry ingredient's volume measure with a mass value without a recipe-specific density.
Assumptions and limitations
The factors are fixed approximations and the route does not convert volume to weight. Although the engine contains an ingredient-density list, the UI passes an empty ingredient and the density only adds an informational step; it does not alter the numeric conversion. Packing, meniscus, temperature, and regional cup conventions can change a kitchen measurement.
