The engine treats the space as a rectangle and calculates square feet as length x width. It then converts that area to square meters by multiplying by 0.092903 and to square yards by dividing by 9. Each displayed area is rounded to two decimals.

Enter length and width in feet. The UI has no unit selector, so the result labels assume both measurements are feet and reports square feet, square meters, and square yards.
Worked example
For a 20 ft x 15 ft rectangle, area is 20 x 15 = 300.00 sq ft. The conversions are 300 x 0.092903 = 27.87 sq m and 300 / 9 = 33.33 sq yd after display rounding.
How to interpret the result
The result is the planar area of a simple rectangle. It can provide a base quantity for flooring, paint, or material planning, but a project with multiple sections should be measured and added section by section.
Common mistakes to avoid
Use linear feet for both length and width, not one length and one area measurement. Do not multiply feet by inches without converting first, and do not use the square-foot output as the amount of material when waste or packaging is required.
Assumptions and limitations
Only rectangular area is modeled. Irregular rooms, alcoves, curved boundaries, unusable spaces, diagonal layouts, and material waste are not included. Rounding to two decimals can also affect a later estimate when many areas are combined.
Practical use and checks
The Square Footage Calculator multiplies a rectangular length by width and converts the area to square feet, square meters, and square yards. Enter length 12 feet and width 10 feet as a check; the result should be 120 square feet, about 11.15 square meters, and about 13.33 square yards. Use the square-feet result to compare a room with a flooring quote, then use the material's coverage rate rather than assuming the geometric area equals the order quantity. The route assumes both inputs are feet, so convert meters or other units before entering them and label the source measurements clearly. It models one rectangle and does not subtract closets, columns, openings, or unusable corners. For an L-shaped room, split the plan into nonoverlapping rectangles and add their areas; for a triangular or circular region, use the appropriate geometry instead. Add waste or overage after calculating the base area, because a 10% cutting allowance is not part of the displayed square footage. Measurement error along both dimensions can compound, and the result is rounded to two decimals. For a purchase, check seam layout, plank or tile dimensions, package rounding, and the supplier's overage guidance before converting 120 square feet into boxes.
