The converter normalizes force to newtons, then divides by the destination factor. Its table uses 1 kN = 1,000 N, 1 dyn = 1e-5 N, 1 lbf = 4.448222 N, 1 kgf = 9.80665 N, and 1 pdl = 0.138255 N.
Variables and inputs
Enter a numeric force and choose N, kN, dyn, lbf, kgf, or pdl. The UI accepts signed values, returns every listed unit, and formats engine values to eight significant digits. Kilogram-force is force, not a mass input in kilograms.
Worked example
For 1 kgf, the engine normalizes to 1 x 9.80665 = 9.80665 N. That is 0.00980665 kN and 980,665 dyn; using the configured factors gives about 2.20462 lbf and 70.93 pdl.
How to interpret the result
Force is an interaction that can change motion or deform an object. A newton is the SI unit, while kilogram-force and pound-force are gravitational-force units tied to standard acceleration or customary definitions. A conversion changes the unit, not the direction or physical cause of the force.
Common mistakes to avoid
Do not substitute kilograms for kilogram-force, and do not confuse pound-force (lbf) with pound-mass (lbm). Keep dynes in the cgs system only when the rest of the equation is compatible, and preserve signs when direction matters.
Assumptions and limitations
The lbf and pdl factors are rounded in the engine, so a high-precision reference may differ in the last digits. The page does not model acceleration, mass, vector direction, torque, or a force balance, and it does not validate whether a negative or unusually large value describes a real setup.
