What this calculator does
The engine treats the entered YYYY-MM-DDTHH:MM as a wall-clock value in the selected source zone.
Formula and method
The engine treats the entered YYYY-MM-DDTHH:MM as a wall-clock value in the selected source zone. It uses Intl time-zone data to find the source offset for that date, resolves the corresponding instant, finds the destination offset for that same instant, and formats both local times. The signed difference is destination offset minus source offset in minutes.
Variables and inputs
Enter a local date and time with no UTC suffix, then choose From and To from the supported UTC, U.S. Eastern/Central/Mountain/Pacific, London, Central Europe, India, Tokyo, and Sydney zones. The selected date matters because offsets can change with daylight saving rules.
Worked example
For January 15, 2026 at 12:00 in America/New_York, the source offset is -300 minutes and London is 0 minutes. The same instant is 17:00 in Europe/London, and the difference is 0 - (-300) = +300 minutes, or five hours later.
How to interpret the result
The destination output represents the same instant expressed in another zone. A positive difference means the destination clock is later for that date; crossing midnight can change the displayed calendar date even though the elapsed interval is unchanged.
Common mistakes to avoid
Enter the source wall-clock time, not a time already converted to UTC, and select the zone where the event actually occurs. Always use the event date because a zone's offset can differ between winter and summer.
Assumptions and limitations
Only the zones listed in the engine are available. Results depend on the browser's IANA time-zone data and locale formatting, and ambiguous or nonexistent local times around daylight-saving transitions are not separately explained. The tool does not schedule reminders or account for business calendars.
