Do not convert mph to km/h by multiplying by 1.6 and then label the result exact; use the appropriate factor and keep time units consistent.

The km/h and knot factors are rounded constants in the engine. This is a scalar speed converter and does not distinguish velocity direction or changing speed.

Practical use and checks

The Speed Converter is useful when a vehicle specification, weather report, or physics problem uses a different speed unit. Enter 60 miles per hour as a check; the result should be about 26.8224 meters per second, 96.56 kilometers per hour, 52.14 knots, and 88 feet per second. These are different labels for one scalar speed. If the result will be used in a distance calculation, keep the time unit compatible: meters per second pairs with seconds, while miles per hour pairs with hours. Use knots for nautical miles per hour in maritime or aviation contexts, not as a generic synonym for kilometers per hour. A speed conversion does not add direction, acceleration, or information about a changing trip. The engine uses fixed conversion factors and may round the displayed value, so use extra precision only when the input itself is precise enough to justify it. It does not distinguish true airspeed, indicated airspeed, ground speed, or wind-relative speed. A negative input can describe a signed velocity in an equation but is not an ordinary speed reading. For safety or regulatory work, preserve the original measurement, instrument uncertainty, reference frame, and time of observation alongside the converted number.
